Exploration of Mount Desert Island - Bar Harbor Maine: Virtual Tour Guide and Information "JORDAN POND"

This is Jordan Pond.  The water is so clear allowing you  to see the beautiful granite and smooth rock floor, but it is a reservoir so there is no swimming or wading allowed.  The water depth reaches 150 feet. Notice the vessels on top of a visitor's vehicle.... There are many gorgeous places to Kayak in Acadia National Park and this is one of them.   There is also a trail  here which takes you on a beautiful 1/2 mile walk around the pond.  Here you will also find the Jordan Pond House Restaurant which is open May through October.  It is a wonderful restaurant that back in the 1800's was famous for serving popovers on the lawn.  The original building was destroyed and replaced with the new Jordan Pond House and is the only restaurant in the park.  It is popular and reservations are a good idea:  207-276-3316.  The views around it are picturesque where carriage roads goes by the restaurant and the pond.  There is a bike rack just outside and the restaurant is very popular after a day of touring by bicycle.    You can also experience these carriage roads on horse and buggy by stopping at the   WIldwood Stables nearby where you can tour on horse and buggy  (for a fee) and gallop on the carriage roads built by John D. Rockefeller, Jr.    Also, you should note that the Island explorer, a free shuttle bus from Bar Harbor has a pick up and drop off point at the Jordan Pond House.

Explorer Notes:
There are no Pets  allowed in water.   The Depth is 150 feet.
No swimming, windsurfing, SCUBA, or boating allowed within 1,000 ft of the water intake
You may fish for trout, but not salmon is landlocked.
